HOTELS

Here are our comments on the 2 hotels we stayed at.

Cases de Son Barbassa
Service: 5
Food: 4
Cleanliness: 5
Value for money: 4
Sleep quality: 5

We would certainly recommend Son Barbassa to a friend, or anyone else.

The hotel is ideally situated for visiting the north east side of the island. Arta and Capdepera (only a couple of miles away) are delightful and interesting towns. The staff and facilities are excellent at the hotel, the swimming pool is magnificent and the restaurant has lovely food and great views. This was our second stay there and we would happily go again.

Ca’s Xorc

Service: 5

Cleanliness: 5
Value for money: 4
Sleep quality: 5

This is a special hotel with amazing views from high in the Tramuntana and a challenging hairpin bends drive to get to it. From arrival to departure the staff were friendly and helpful, they gave great advice on places to visit and ensured we had a relaxing stay. Barettes restaurant provides meals with stupendous view that attracts visitors from nearby Soller. It is ‘a place to be seen’ so provides hotel residents with and entertaining evening and a slow dining experience.

Thanks for all your help and advice - you provide a very comprehensive and special service, we’ll be back to you for our next trip.

Beautiful hotel with amazing outdoor facilities. Breakfast poor compared to the other hotels and dinner service was rather lacking.

Sa Tanqueta

5 all round.

Beautiful Hotel, Beautiful location.

Son Bernadinet

5 all round.

Another lovely peaceful hotel but a little isolated, so a car is a must.
The breakfast was outstanding.

Overall holiday was everything we could ask for. Thank-you Henrik. I will recommend you to all my friends and will be back in touch when we want to re visit Majorca.

Hi Henrik

Firstly, thank you very much for organising our holiday last week.  We felt very lucky with the fine spring weather.

SON BARBASSA
Service:  5
Food:  6
Cleanliness:  5
Value for money:  5
Sleep quality:  5
Value for money:  4.5 (see below)
We thought the staff completely charming and helpful.  Loved the rural location.

CARROSA
Service:  4
Food:  2/3
Cleanliness: 4
Value for money: 3
Sleep quality: 3
This hotel had been beautifully arranged ... except the windows of our room 320 opened out on to a small courtyard with the rooms opposite looking straight in.  The breakfast compared with the Son Barbassa was bland and tasteless.  Efficient friendly staff but absolutely no atmosphere in the place.  Free bottled water in our room!  As you had warned Mel, it was all very German, which after the Son Barbassa didn't sit well.

LM 04/23

Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed our holiday in Mallorca in March. We were extremely well looked after at Son Barbassa by their very friendly staff and enjoyed having breakfast and dinner in their glass fronted dining room. We had excellent weather and had lunch outside when we weren’t playing golf.  Capdepera, nearby, is a charming small hill town.
Carrossa is in a magnificent position with stunning views. The indoor pool was a treat - the outdoor pool was very cold! Lunch outside at the Bistro was perfect. Unfortunately the Bistro was closed in the evening and we found the restaurant very expensive.
We look forward to returning to Mallorca again in the Spring or Autumn.

Hi Henrik,

Thank you so much for your help, I have already sung your praises to others and indeed my friends who live near Soller. Your choices fitted exactly our requirements and without you I would not have been able to find these places.

Thank you.

Best wishes

Dear Henrik
We arrived at Son Barbassa on Tuesday and felt totally relaxed very quickly. This was in spite of a terrible journey out here but that is way in the past now!
Pat and I wanted to thank you for a great choice and we look forward to our next stop from Monday at Son Bernadinet and meanwhile are chilling out here. Great choice!
All the best

Dear Henrik
The holiday has continued very well and Son Bernadinet does not disappoint.

A different feel to the hotel and run on different lines and very personal. Total relaxation and both hotels combined have been just what we wanted so excellent research on your part. Well done. Still a couple more days to go before we return on Tuesday
All the best

Henrik

Hope all is well

I have written a review on trip advisor and mentioned you ??

As per your questions to Lynne 5 for every question and we would highly recommend to anyone

Would have liked a coffee machine in the room and free water each day in the room but no biggie

The staff were brilliant ( the son of the owners drove us one night to Capdepera when the cab didn't show up) and the scenery and hotel are just stunning

We will be in touch soon for next year!

Hi Henrick

I’m really sorry for the delayed response, this was sitting in my drafts folder...

Yes! We had the most amazing stay at Son Barbassa, so thank you for your help in finding and booking.

How would you rate the following from 1-5 where 5 is the best rating:

Service: 5
Food: 5
Cleanliness: 5
Value for money: 5
Sleep quality: 4

We only downgrade sleep quality slightly as we found the bed a little bit firm for us. But may well suit others. HOWEVER the day beds by the pool more than made up for that – they were super comfortable.

As you know, we stayed in the Dalt building which was a 5/6 minute walk away from the main hotel. But a choice of two very pleasant walks, one of which was well lit at night for a walk back from dinner.

The ambience and décor in the Dalt are brilliant and the addition of the kitchen and lounge area very useful.

We had room 44 which was large and had a lovely large private terrace. No sea view, but larger than those that did, and we only had to pop up to the pool to see the sea view. The pool here is a great bonus.

The main hotel, restaurant and pool are delightful. Always plenty of options of where to set yourself up – daytime or evening. The beds around the pool are sublime.
Breakfast was good. We had lunch and dinner there on a few occasions which was also good.
Service and cleanliness are top notch.

The whole atmosphere was very calm, quiet, and relaxing. I also had a treatment in the spa which was a real treat! Great facial and massage from Maria.

If we had to be at all critical, there were just a couple small things:

No tea and coffee in room. Tea and coffee charged for each time. (We bought tea bags and milk from the supermarket and used the kitchen).
No English TV. There should have been, and we did request but it wasn’t fixed during our stay.

All in all, we had a lovely week and would love to go back again one day. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to a friend.

However, we’re now very tempted to try more of the hotels you represent!

Thanks again

Hi Henrik

We had a wonderful week in Mallorca, if rather hot! Please see my feedback below.

Many thanks for your help organising things. We hope to return to Mallorca at some point, I think my mother would love the island but we’d probably aim for May so it’s not quite so hot.

Would you like to write a couple of general sentences about your stay?
This is a beautiful hotel in a lovely rural location with fabulous panoramic views. We had a few nights in the super modern finca that belongs to the hotel but is located 5 mins walk up the hill from the main hotel building. We didn’t mind the walk, it was nice to stretch our legs after supper and the path was lit. The finca is very spacious and very attractive, with its own pool, and a large living room and kitchen, so we made our own lunches some days and enjoyed them in peace and quiet by the small pool. Considering it is such a modern design, the bedrooms were poorly sound proofed – we were at the finca on our own for a couple of nights and it was blissfully peaceful, but then had some very noisy housemates in one room for a couple of nights and could hear every cupboard door opening or tv on etc which was not great. We enjoyed our individual terraces with all the rooms at the finca, which gave a great feeling of space and added privacy.
We were not able to book a massage treatment as we were told it was fully booked all week (even though we were totally flexible on days/times), which was disappointing.
The old buildings of the main hotel complex are full of character, although our air con did struggle to keep the room cool (suite 21). The staff was lovely and very helpful with our various requests. The main hotel pool feels only just big enough when the hotel is full, but it was never a problem. The food was on the whole very good, with gluten free options for me, and always colourfully presented. The breakfast buffet was very plentiful with something for everyone including lots of colourful fresh fruit and cheeses etc, and artisan breads. The self-service coffee machine provided surprisingly good coffee, although it would have been nice to be served to gently ease into the morning! The freshly squeezed fruit juices were a hit. A chilled bottle of organic Ribas Blanc was our regular tipple (local Mallorcan vineyard blended with a little Viognier grape) and we really enjoyed it.
The caves near Arta are definitely worth visiting (although not cheap at Euro 15 for an adult ticket) but wonderfully cool in high summer and the guide was good.
Some nice tapas restaurants in the old centre of Arta which made a nice change from the hotel menu.
The regular Thursday night seafood BBQ didn’t take place the week we were there for some reason, which we had been looking forward to.
We asked the hotel for a recommendation of someone to eat that was good for fish/seafood, and they sent us to a restaurant at Cala Ratjada close to the harbour but it was really not a great choice and we were confused as to why they had picked this. It was located in an area packed with tourists, hot with very little breeze, in a slightly scruffy end of town. They didn’t have gluten free options (or any other allergens) marked on the menu and were not really able to help in that respect, so we didn’t stay. We were not smitten with Cala Ratjada at all, it felt rather spoilt (probably by all the British and German tourists!). It seemed strange for the hotel to recommend the restaurant they booked for us, as it was so totally unlike the ambience of Son Barbassa. My one criticism of the hotel would be that they didn’t really seem very interested in guests enjoying the island or exploring Mallorca, they really just wanted you to spend time at the hotel and eating all your meals there, rather than recommending great places to visit etc.
But I would certainly be tempted to investigate other Mallorcan rural hotels /agroturismo now we have tried one.

Hi Henrik,

We have just returned from Mallorca and wanted to thank you for your recommendations.  Both hotels  were excellent and were enjoyed by all members of the family (impressive given I had 14 year old twins with us!)

Many kind regards,

Here is our review of Son Barbassa Boutique hotel

Service: 3
Food: 2
Cleanliness: 4
Value for money: 3
Sleep quality: 5

Would you recommend the hotel to a friend? Yes

Would you like to write a couple of general sentences about your stay?
The score for service was less due to no service at all around the pool area and poor service at breakfast. We did not even receive complimentary water on arrival.

The score for food was less due to a poor selection/quality of food at breakfast and poor service.Dinner however was superb both in terms of service and food.

Therefore overall this was not a value for money stay despite being in a beautiful and peaceful location.

Please contact me for further information if required.

Kind regards

We loved our stay at SonBarbassa, it was quiet , relaxing and everything we need to just total Vacate our lives and have a wonderful holiday.
The surrounding areas are Stunning and we found some great local hotels to dine at for two of our evenings, however we dined in our own hotel most nights and the food is delishous
Even though the hotel is quiet and very relaxed the two boys who are teenagers had a fantastic time enjoying the chilled vibe of the hotel.
Our only complete I would say is since the hotel is relatively expensive I think water should be provided free of charge daily.
We have recomended to many friends to go and stay at the hotel.

Hi Henrik

Yes we had a great holiday thank you!

A few comments on the two hotels:

San Lorenzo
Lovely old building and traditional stying, although a lot of steps!
Convenient for exploring the Old Town and marina.
The pool area and our roof terrace were lovely.
The bedroom was on two levels (more steps!) and a bit dark - I think that there are probably nicer rooms for the money but we enjoyed a drink on the roof terrace Saturday night. Value for money 4
Bed comfy and large - sleep quality 5
Cleanliness 5
Tasty buffet breakfast - Food 5
The staff were friendly and helpful but they seemed very busy and a bit short staffed. Service - 4

Son Barbassa
We loved the hotel! Such beautiful views from the dining area, the pool and our private terrace - Value for money 5
Our room was a bit small and the aircon not great but the terrace was amazing and made up for the smallish room.  Bed comfy and large, but due to aircon and awful hard pillows - sleep quality 4
Service always helpful and friendly but male receptionist had very bad body odour! Evening bar service at the pool would have been nice. Service 4
Cleanliness 5
Hotel restaurant food very good and we had dinner 4 out of 6 nights (went into Capdepera one night). Food 5
On the Wednesday night we had the full tasting menu with wines at Andreu Genestra restaurant at Son Jaumell Hotel - expensive but good value and recommend!
One problem - we thought that it was an Adults Only hotel… unfortunately there was a german boy aged around 7 who was quite noisy in the pool most nights between 5-7pm which was really irritating

Locality
The hillside location of Son Barbassa was lovely and great views.  Capdepera and its castle was interesting for a wander.  We had a stroll along Cala Ratjada promenade and Cala Mesquida beach, but the resorts not really what we like.  We enjoyed our trip to Cala Torta, but road in a very bad way so had to walk quite a long way to the beach.  We did several walks on the coastal paths - great views.  We drove out to Alcudia Old Town and the peninsula.
I think next time I would like to see more of the West Coast.. Daia, Andrax?

I would recommend both hotels to a friend but particularly Son Barbassa.

Thanks very much for treating us to dinner on our first nigh at Son Barbassa.  I have already recommended you and your excellent service to several friends.

Thank you for helping us have a great holiday at such short notice.

Kind regards

Loved the stay, thank you, see below, hope to visit Mallorca again sometime! Very friendly and helpful staff. Have advice about walks and bike rides. The free guided walk with Antonio was bonus- well worth doing this if it is on offer- we learnt a lot.

This is a very nice hotel and would deserve 4/5 in all categories. We would recommend the hotel to others. Being more used to the north of Mallorca, we found the surrounding towns and countryside less attractive so will probably revert to the north in future.

Dear Henrik

Thank you for a great holiday.

The first two hotels were outstanding. The food & service at Barbassa were excellent & San Siruana was so friendly charming & the walks through the farm spectacular. A special mention of thanks to Sonja who sent my boys to the best golf courses & found us some fabulous excursions.

Torte & Valdemossa Beach both pretty inaccessible were the clear winners. Thanks to you we found both for which v grateful.Alcanada golf unbelievably good.

Hi Henrik

Thanks for asking.

So far all good and I answered your questions below!

I would recommend personally Son Julia and specially Son Barbassa.

I really enjoyed my stay in Son Barbassa. Everyone was friendly, helpful and the hotel strikes a perfect balance between being a family friendly hotel and a ‘grown up’
Hotel. We loved the restaurant set up and the pool. We stayed in multiple rooms but the suites in the main building are the best for families. Also a big plus for their laundry service by the Kilo! So easy for travellers. We will go back!
—-
Son Julia is a wonderful hotel. The staff is really what sets this hotel apart. The rooms are huge but be mindful that some are more updated than others. The breakfast is fantastic and the facilities are just perfect. The pool is large and stunning and the near the pool allows you to relax ! Margaritas and ice cream all nearby!! The hotel feels more like a luxury mansion with a few families rather than a hotel and we loved it.

For the rest Henrik you were wonderful ! I already have your details to someone last week! we will for sure pass on your details to friends.

Thanks

Dear Henrik, I am writing to tell you that once again we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Son Barbassa and really appreciated your gift of a meal served there on the first night. The wine you chose was greatly appreciated and wines from that vineyard were savoured most evenings! Chris and I  stayed in room 43 as requested but John and Julie were disappointed to find they were not in their favourite 44. At the moment (health and wealth permitting!) we hope to return again next year and I will be contacting you in the New Year. Your emails giving information about the island and the hotels are appreciated and I think you and your team are extremely efficient and I recommend you to anyone thinking of visiting Mallorca. With many thanks

Hi Henrik, Many thanks for organising our holiday in Mallorca- as we (sadly) prepare to make our way home we have lots of lovely memories and happy, sunny times to take back with us. Many thanks also for the lovely bottle of wine and snacks that was at son barbassa on our arrival - it was a lovely surprise and one that we very much enjoyed.   You’ll also be pleased to hear that we met up with some of your other guests  who were brought up just round the corner from Wendy in Manchester- it’s a small world! We had dinner with them yesterday and chatted till after midnight with them. Many thanks again

Dear Henrik
Thanks for making our bookings again. They were both really good choices.
Cases de son Barbasa
Food 4, good quality straightforward well presented meals but couldn't match Albellons
Cleanliness 5 - also spotless throughout
Value for money 4 - the de Dalt annexe was a bonus in that it was quiet, had its own small pool and a good walk to and from the main hotel buildings.
Sleep 5 - de Dalt was silent especially as we had it to ourselves for 2 nights, wonderful star gazing with little light pollution.
Hotel Albellons - Food 5, it was really excellent, we ate there each evening and looked forward to finding what the chef had created.
Cleanliness 5 - it was spotless in all areas. Value for money 5 - worth it for the food and setting. Sleep 5 - quiet, peaceful, excellent bed and bathroom facilities.
We'd highly recommend both hotels.
Best wishes

We stayed 4 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we loved it! We love our food and it did not disappoint, breakfast was plentiful and dinner was excellent. Our suite was situated in another building just off the hotel but it was fabulous, we sat on our large patio with a coffee watching the sun rise over the olive oil trees every morning. Big thank you to all the staff there, they made us feel at home. I am considering booking again for next year it was that good! Tip, stay in room 16 or 17 for the views.

JH 09/18

Just to say Thank you for your wonderful recommendation of Son Barbassa. We have had the most wonderful 2 nights stay - it was absolutely perfect and exactly what we were looking for. Stunning rural setting, elegant poolside area and beautiful simple stylish decor in the hotel and bedrooms. So charming and peaceful. We ate there both nights - the outdoor patio was just so stunning with wonderful views we couldn’t drag ourselves away. Delicious food.  Very happy customers.  Thank you

We had a great time Henrik. I’ll give you some feedback next week. Overall we preferred Son Barbassa and our rooms there were excellent - interconnecting with fabulous views. Best,

CH 07/18

Dear Henrik, Thank you for suggesting Son Barbassa as we absolutely loved it and would definitely recommend it to our friends. As you know we stayed in  the annexe which was really fabulous and would like to stay there again as it was so peaceful and set apart from everywhere!. We would rate everything 5 with perhaps 4 for food which was good but not outstanding. We so enjoyed ourselves that we are thinking of returning next year. I will also tell anybody thinking of going to Majorca to contact you as your information and service was excellent. Many thanks

MG 06/18

Hi Henrik, thank you so much for your email. We had a wonderful holiday at Son Barbassa, we would most definitely return to this hotel for another stay in a couple of years. We would rate this Hotel 5 out of 5 for each category. With best wishes

Hi Henrik, No problem, here is our feedback below.  We really enjoyed our fortnight, thank you for helping us to organise it. Hotel 1, Son Barbassa: How would you rate the following from 1-5 where 5 is the best rating: Service: 5, Food: 3 (overpriced for the quality, and not enough choice for children), Cleanliness: 5 Value for money: 5, Sleep quality: 3 (double glazing wasn’t good enough to exclude the cockerels crowing and dogs barking from daybreak onwards, and no blackout blinds, but really comfy, big beds) Would you recommend the hotel to a friend? Yes. Would you like to write a couple of general sentences about your stay? We had a fantastic time here, it’s a stylish, relaxing place in a beautiful setting, with the best pool we’ve seen.  Our children were made very welcome and felt safe and confident to walk around the hotel by themselves.  A better choice of food for children – e.g. simple pasta or tapas - would have improved our stay even more. Hotel 2, Can Quatre: How would you rate the following from 1-5 where 5 is the best rating: Service: 5 Food: 3 (breakfast was excellent but there was no choice of evening meal, which makes things difficult with children.  We couldn’t eat there once.) Cleanliness: 5 Value for money: 3 Sleep quality: 4 (blackout blinds, double glazing (cockerels next door) and spare blankets would have improved it.  Beds were very comfy, brilliant air con.) Would you recommend the hotel to a friend? Yes, but possibly not the villa. Would you like to write a couple of general sentences about your stay? The villa where we stayed was a bit disappointing: the dishwasher, TV and oven did not work properly and the stone stairs were steep, slippery, dark and had no handrail.  The WiFi was extremely slow.  There was no electric kettle, just a camping one for the hob (which we had to light using an improvised spill).  The showers were a bit basic.  We did have a lovely time, but were disappointed with those things as it was quite an expensive week.  However, it’s such a friendly place, the staff were really lovely.  The gardens and surroundings were beautiful and the children loved the pool and the breakfast.  Best wishes,

GH 08/17

Hello Henrik, It was wonderful! Cases de Son Barbassa: We really loved it here. Our room and little terrace was perfect and all of the staff were really pleasant. The only feedback I'd provide is that the bikes to hire aren't well maintained - one needed a new chain and the other had incredibly flat tires. Service: 5, Food: 5, Cleanliness: 5, Value for money: 5, Sleep quality: 5 Convent de la Missio: Again a fabulous hotel with really friendly and helpful staff. We were allowed a late check-out for free too. The bar / lounge area is the only part of the hotel that lacked ambiance. Service: 5, Food: 5, Cleanliness: 5, Value for money: 5, Sleep quality: 5

Henrik - we had a lovely time, thank you for your counsel in the planning and when we were there. Apart from the minor issues on arrival, we loved our room/mini apartment, the staff were very nice and helpful, the restaurant was very good in the evening. It was obviously interesting visiting Son Brull, we also checked out La Residencia - they are what they are and as you say have more staff. Of course nice to treat oneself but Son Barbassa was exactly our kind of hotel and the value for money was very good versus the perceived "5 star" aka very expensive options. We hope to return next year! Thank you again Your formal answers to your questions: How would you rate the following from 1-5 where 5 is the best rating: Service:4.5, Food: 4 (if being picky the breakfast was absolutely fine but could have had more choice), Cleanliness:5, Value for money:4.5, Sleep quality:5. Would you recommend the hotel to a friend? Yes. Would you like to write a couple of general sentences about your stay? Lovely small hotel.  Good pool area for relaxing.   Restaurant excellent in the evening. Lovely setting.  Helpful and kind staff.  Good value for money.

Hi Henrik, It was great, thank you! Great hotel. I went with my 5months old baby and a friend and everyone was SUPER HAPPY. The beach nearby has Maldive-like quality of water. I loved that most food served was coming from the hotel itself.  The stuff was very kind. And it felt very private and tranquil. Good Afternoon All, My husband and I have just returned from a most enjoyable weeks stay at your lovely hotel.  We were extremely fortunate to stay in the annexe which we thought was just beautiful and the walk to the hotel was so enjoyable every morning and evening after breakfast and supper respectively.  All in all we had a wonderful experience and would be tempted to return except I could not cope with the uncomfortable bed. There just a few minor points that I wish to mention. 1. Most information in the hotel was in German and the only English was the Majorcan newspaper. 2. The restaurant at times was extremely busy due to large visiting parties and consequently under staffed and service far too slow.  Also the hotel guests who were staying and eating every evening were given second rate tables so as to allow the large parties to have the best tables. Portion size of some of the meals were dauntingly large!! I thank you all for a great holiday and the above are just a few points that concerned me. Regards

Hi Henrik, Thank you for your mail. We had a very nice break thank you. Further to above the service was nothing short of outstanding. Family run and they did their best to make you feel like family too. Very very good. Very nice setting and beautifully relaxed. Great location for local sites and places of interest. Easy to get to and find. Very intimate and could easily consider going back.  Lovely rooms and quite charming hotel no negatives but don’t bother paying extra for junior suite. Whilst your view is probably improved with a nice little terrace the added space to the room is not usable. Food: 4 - Subject of course to what you choose was excellent. Cleanliness: 5 - Spot on Value for money: 3 - Providing you don’t pay extra junior suite very good value. Sleep quality:        5 - Beds were brilliant. Would recommend to selected friends. Hello Henrik. We enjoyed son Barbassa very much. Great location, good room with super rural view from terrace. There were quite a few young children there and whilst they did not spoil things for us we were surprised that the property is not ‘adults only’. Service: 3.5 – 4. We had a few long waits between courses. Food: 3.5 – 4. OK without being outstanding. Some of the meat was extremely tough. Fish dishes better. Breakfast buffets very good although limited choice of cereals. Cleanliness: 5. Very good room service. Value for money: 4. Expensive – but the location and room terrace makes it. A slight upgrade on the food would make a 5 score. Sleep quality: 4. Aircon not in use but just about OK. Staff mostly very friendly. Our special request for a lobster salad one night was dealt with enthusiastically by both the front desk and chef (Although horrendously expensive at E140! We would certainly go again.

Hi Henrik, Some feedback on our holiday at Son Barbassa 24-9-13 to 4-10-13. First, it was arguably the best hotel for our purposes we have stayed in in Majorca. Rural location just superb. Staff very friendly and obliging. Sometimes short staffed resulting in a drop off in the level of service, but nothing serious. Room(s) excellent. Room 2 needs the wardrobe door fixing and better lighting as it is very dark now the lounge extension has been added. Evening food good but not outstanding and just a little pricey given the quality provided. Breakfasts excellent. Would be helpful if all extras, drinks etc were signed for on receipt to avoid any confusion on settlement of the bill. Overall though, an excellent and friendly hotel which we have no hesitation in recommending to friends. (I gave your website to the guy seated next to me on the return flight). We’ll certainly be returning to Son Barbassa and using your efficient and friendly service. Regards
