Puig Major: hit new highs while hiking on Mallorca

Posted: Monday, 9th June 2014

If you’re a seasoned walker and love incredible views unavailable to the majority, Puig Major is likely to captivate. This majestic 854m giant is the highest peak on the island. But unfortunately you won’t be able to include its towering apex in your walking Mallorca itinerary. Because Puig Major lies within a milterised zone, its peak is inaccessible to the general public. US Military radar stations were built on Puig Major in 1958 and there they remain.

So you cannot conquer the island’s highest peak. But all is not lost. You can still take your Mallorca walking experience to terrific new heights. All while getting spectacular views of the neighbouring Puig Major’s incredible roving and sheer landscapes. Puig de Massenalla is the highest accessible Mallorca peak standing at 1367m. Sure it’s a challenging hike but the pure atmosphere and awe-inspiring views are worth the sweat.

After a high-energy day of walking Mallorca’s incredible mountain peak, you’ll want a boutique hotel to come home too. And we can connect you with the accommodation options that best match your needs and preferences. Puig de Massenalla is located in Serra de Traumautana. The beautiful village of Pollenca lies amongst the eastern foothills of this spectacular mountain range and offers a host of boutique hotels Mallorca style like:
