Walking Mallorca: rural village adventure

Posted: Wednesday, 16th February 2022

What is the easiest way to get up close and personal with four quintessential Mallorcan villages in just one tour? Walking Mallorca lets you see and experience so much more. Take the Selva rural village walk for example. So easy that walkers of all abilities can do the trail without a hitch. Along the way you will see some incredible Mallorcan architecture, history and countryside too.

Enjoy the terrific views of this walk with barely a hill to climb. Your feet will rejoice too as most of your trail will follow smooth easy-walking tarmac. All this despite the walking route taking you through authentic Mallorca countryside.

Trace your way around a relaxing circular walk beginning in Selva village. Pass by the stately Selva church which dates back to 1248. As one of the village’s earliest buildings this striking landmark is an incredible sight in itself. When walking Mallorca you will get a marvellous ground level view of the church as you pass by.

Carry on through quiet back lanes to the village Moscari. You may glimpse the 13th century Son Ferrer well. Meanwhile you’re unlikely to miss the lovely 1948 monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Moscari may be tiny yet the views this traditional village affords are anything but. Soak up far-reaching vistas of northern mountains and rolling southern plains.

A quiet country lane will lead you on your next leg of this walking Mallorca experience. Through picturesque almond groves you’ll go into the sleepy hamlet of Binibona. Here panoramic countryside prevails with sheep grazing in paddocks. Laden olive and almond orchards add to the rustic appeal of Binibona.

Follow your nose on to Caimari village, famous for olive oil production. Idyllically rural, Caimari is a wonderful place to fetch up for a little explore. Sleepy village back streets and quaint little stores offer pleasant spots to while away some time. A visit to the historic church is also highly recommended.

Caimari is the final village on your round walking trip from Selva. Choose to turn on your heel and meander back to Selva. Or you could always linger a little longer in serene Caimari by staying a night or two. Match your walking Mallorca excursion with a Rural Hotels Mallorca experience. Finca es Castell is a great accommodation option in Caimari offering:

•    Historic stone architecture dating back to the XI Century
•    Amazing rural views of the Tramuntana mountains and stretching olive groves
•    Bougainvillea lined swimming pool for a cooling dip
•    Choice of 11 charming rooms or one junior suite
