Mallorcan beaches: Es Caragol

Posted: Wednesday, 10th June 2015

Looking for a spot of seclusion in your exploration of Mallorca beaches? If you are touring southern Mallorca be sure to include Es Caragol on your ‘to visit’ list. Es Caragol is Mallorca’s most southern beach and is arguably one of the most beautiful. At any rate, you will get to enjoy a true taste of Mallorcan beach life without being inundated by other beach-goers.

You can gaze out over crystal clear waters or talk a stroll along the pretty 500-metre long beach. Peace and quiet are the order of the day at Es Caragol. You won’t find any water sports, restaurants or amenities on hand. Just a relaxing beach retreat.

Kids will have a terrific time at Es Caragol with lots of sand dunes to explore, shallow waters to cool off in and ample space for play. Getting the whole family down to Es Caragol’s shores will be your only challenge. You can park at the landmark lighthouse in Ses Salines but face a rather rugged 30 minute walk to the beach. If you and the kids are keen to tackle the craggy terrain though, the pay-off will be great.

Es Caragol has plenty of interesting rock formations to explore too. Likely you will see several eye-catching mountains of stones plus some flatter broader natural rock faces.
If you can tear yourself away from the cooling waters or golden sands, that is.

After a lovely day at the beach, you will want somewhere equally restful to return home to. While Es Caragol itself is some way away from any Mallorcan resort, the villae of Ses Salines lies just 7km away. Here you will find several boutique hotels Mallorca offering a stunning place to lay your head. Don’t look past:

•    Sa Carrotja: a historic icon among boutique hotels Mallorca. Nestled between fields of almond and fig trees, Sa Carrotja is home to the Ses Saline’s oldest ancient stone houses. Cosy and intimate with just nine rooms, this boutique hotel Mallorca has something for everyone. Traditional home-made Mallorcan cuisine, beautifully restored accommodation and a host of nearby leisure activities are just the start.
•    Can Bonico: this striking 13th century mansion still belongs to the family of the knight to who King Jaime 1 gifted the property as reward for loyalty. Featuring carefully preserved architecture, luxurious rooms and great location handy to many beautiful Mallorcan beaches. Can Bonico is a real treat.
